Celebrating 50 Years of Jamaica Ska

August 23 was a great night to be celebrating 50 years of Jamaica Ska. It was PiliSkapinas' first foray after an extended hiatus from organizing gigs.

The night itself was a reunion of sorts for old guards from the scene, and a meeting of the new. It started off with a fresh new band, The Monsoons, who rocketed with a full jamaican ska set, wala nang hiyaan as with previous gigs because the people started to dance right away and went on through the sets of original Angono rude boys, Neighbors, who celebrated their 17th anniversary last month,

Shuffle Union, who are on a full comeback to the scene, and Coffeebreak Island. Thanks to everyone for making Jamaica Cincuenta a great night to remember that love and respect should always be what fuels everyone as we enjoy the music we all love, everybody starts somewhere.

The next serving of PiliSkapinas will be on Sept. 15, Saturday at the newly opened The Spot, Monumento, as Skamax makes a comeback, and a September playdate of PiliSkapinas itself at Skarlet Jazz Kitchen.
